We are the sidewalk newsstand industry trade association in New York City
Sidewalk newsstands have been an iconic part of the New York City streetscape for over a century. From hawking newspapers in the 1900s, to selling subway tokens in the 1970s, to offering a quick snack, umbrella or phone charger in the 2020s, for on-the-go New Yorkers, newsstands are essential to our city.
The law prohibits newsstands from being owned by big corporations, and no person may own more than
two newsstands, so each is truly family-owned and operated. For over thirty years, the New York City Newsstand Operators Association has advocated on behalf of these very small businesses in the halls of government. We work on behalf of our members to ensure that sidewalk newsstand operators are treated fairly, their rights are respected, and their businesses thrive.
